Happy St. Badrick’s Day

On Tuesday March 22, many people came out at 9 p.m. to the Chamberlain Student Center pit to support St. Baldrick’s DaySUP pledged to raise $10,000 for pediatric cancer research. Each participant set a goal for the amount of money he wanted to raise and if he met his goal, his head was shaved at the St. Baldrick’s event.

There were 30 shavees including: the Assistant Director of Student Activities and SUP Advisor Constantine Alexakos, adjunct Professor Douglass Overtoom, and students. There were also two females who surprisingly shaved their heads: SUP Vice President Lauren Thompson and SUP committee member Danielle Watson. The females who cut their hair sent their locks to Pantene, which has a program that takes human hair and makes wigs for cancer patients. The rest of the hair is going to be donated to make mats that help soak up oil from oil spills.

By the end of the night a total of $13,522.03 was raised and donated to the St. Baldrick’s foundation for pediatric cancer research. SUP would like to thank everyone that came out and participated in this event and give a special thanks to the barbers from Hair to There!
